The institute has been established vide, Bihar Government order no.-7102 dated 31July 1964, Department of Industries & Technical Education (presently known as Department of Science & Technology) Bihar. Government Polytechnic Barauni is recognized by the State Board Technical Education (SBTE) Bihar and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi.
